Ashley Medley - 2nd Place
Michael Smith - 3rd Place
Lake level: 872.19
Water temperature: 52 to 55 degrees
Air temperature: 33 to 47 degrees
The third qualifying tournament of the year was unseasonably cold. Two days prior to the tournament it was 80 degrees and sunny, but then the snow moved in. Heavy rain at the weigh in wasn't much fun either. Yes, we are in Missouri. But in spite of the weather, 71 anglers came to get qualified for the $10,000 Shoot Out. First place went to Jay Carter. He fished the Little Sac side, concentrating on spawning pockets. Using a Poor Boy Jig in 8 to 12 foot of water, he said that two of his better fish were caught by 10 a.m. When the bite slowed by noon, Jay switched to a Smith Wick rouge in a clown color to cull up a couple times. Sponsors include Bass Cat Boats, Mercury Marine, Bull Shoals Boat Dock, Lews, Lowrance, Poor Boy Jigs, and Pro Guide Batteries. Ashley Medley claimed second place by focusing on secondary points and flipping bushes in the twin bridges area. He flipped a 1/2 ounce black and blue jig to heavy cover in the 3 to 5 foot range. Ashley's big fish came around noon, but the key to his success was covering a lot of water. His sponsors are Nitro, Mercury Marine, Bass Pro, and Purcell Tire. We want to thank all of the anglers that have supported us this season and remind everyone that there are three more qualifying events left before the October Shoot Out. We would also like to congratulate Dustin Cox for taking the points lead for Angler of the Year, which is good for $1,000 courtesy of Sell Gas. Good luck Dustin!
